Starting Situation
The initial assignment of the project was the evaluation of the economic efficiency of the own power
production currently in operations in view of new guidelines for energy management and the liberalization
of the power market. The goal of the project was the reduction of at least 20% of the energy costs of the
Dalli plant site in Stolberg. Starting points were the analysis of existing technical infrastructure and organi-
zation and the new design of the gas and power supply contracts. In addition to the main plant in Stolberg,
two neighboring operations and four further sites of the Dalli Works were integrated within the media supply
framework.

Result
The final analysis showed a savings potential of 30% by shutting down the own power production and opti-
mizing the plant technology and organization. As a result of the sizable natural gas savings potential, the
first reconstruction measures were carried out right away. The modernization and optimization of the boiler
systems and water processing took place within five months after placement of the order assignment and
without interrupting the routine heat supplying of the plant.
